With this article, your understanding of nutrition should be enhanced without being overwhelmed with tons of tiny details that might change with the next study.
Eating an egg a day can be a good thing. It contributes to your protein intake, and also provides other nutrients. If you are concerned about the cholesterol and fat content of eggs, take out the yolk and just eat the egg white. Egg whites have no fat or cholesterol, but plenty of nutrients.
You should try the cuisine from various countries, not just your own. Eating lots of ethnic food can break up the boredom of eating the same food every week. This type of eating can enhance your nutrition as well.
Eat your fruit; don’t drink it. Actual fruit contains natural sugars, whereas fruit juice contains many added sweeteners. Surprisingly enough, some fruit juices actually contain more more sugar than sodas. Fruits contain essential vitamins, fiber and minerals which are good for you. Additionally, fruits have been shown to help prevent medical problems like heart disease or stroke.
Sugar Intake
One important way to avoid future health problems and keep good health is to keep your sugar intake to a minimum. When we want to reduce our daily sugar intake, we automatically think to cut back on sodas and other carbonated beverages. However, what we really need to watch out for are fruit juices. Some people have a difficult time getting the nutrients their body needs while dieting. It is important to control cravings, especially as you first begin replacing tasty comfort foods with healthier alternatives. Changing your diet and eating only foods that are good for you, can teach you better eating habits. You eating habits will then be influenced by rational thoughts about nutrition, rather than your emotions.
Take a skeptical view of products that tout how fat-free they are, or how they contain no trans fats. Many products make up for the missing flavor of those fats with added sugar or other chemicals. It’s important to both read and understand the nutrition data on packaging when selecting which product is the best for you and your family.
Eating breakfast is a great thing, but not if your breakfast is a sugar-intensive cereal. They not only have too much sugar, but they are also packed with preservatives and chemicals. If you refrain from eating that sugary bowl of cereal and opt for oatmeal instead, then you will still have a quick meal but one that healthier and makes you feel full for a longer period of time.
Do you like fruit? How about fruit juice? Try getting a juicer and making your own fresh juice, right in your kitchen. Adding vegetables to fruit juices can give them a great punch. Create a carrot/apple juice/ginger combo for some added zip. If you enjoy spicy foods, try juicing half of a jalapeno and add it to your drink.
Think of the colors of the rainbow and the corresponding fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables that are bright in color give us lots of health benefits without having lots of calories. Try to eat one of these fruits or vegetables with every meal. Eat the skins, too, if you can, as they hold many beneficial antioxidants.
